I have extensive experience working with kids with Dyslexia and decoding/encoding challenges.
In schools, much of my work was in a 5th grade classroom in the Newton Public School System with general education students and those with language-based learning disabilities, many of whom were dyslexic.
Since leaving the classroom, I have continued privately tutoring children for over 17 years with these learning profiles from grades K-12.

Specific skills can be taught with narrative text and expository text. For narrative text, I teach story/text structure in addition to skills such as inferencing, vocabulary skills, making connections, drawing conclusions, asking questions, etc. With informational text I use the following programs to teach skills such as main ideas, highlighting, notetaking, etc.:
Unlocking Sentences (Bonnie Singer/ Architects for Learning)
Brainframes (Bonnie Singer/

Kelley is kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and overall, an amazing tutor. Maybe the biggest testament to this is that my daughter loves going to see Kelley every week. I feel so lucky we found Kelley and her work with my daughter has made tangible progress in many domains including significantly building my daughter’s confidence and love for reading, skills for fluency as well as strategies for comprehension, and meeting grade level expectations consistently. I wholeheartedly recommend Kelley as a tutor.
–JL, Mother of Fourth Grader
My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia toward the end of fourth grade, and I enlisted Kelley to help her catch up and master decoding skills through the Orton-Gillingham approach. Kelley quickly built a warm rapport with Colleen, turning reading tutoring into an exciting and enjoyable experience. Over the year, Kelley expertly addressed numerous gaps in her learning, teaching her a diverse range of skills to enhance her decoding abilities—all while keeping the process engaging and fun.
—KC, Mother of Fifth Grader
Kelley came to us highly recommended by my daughter’s second grade teacher as it was clear my daughter would benefit from extra reading help. From day 1, working with Kelley has been an outstanding and positive experience. Kelley has so much expertise, experience, and tools for meeting the exact needs of each child. Kelley also does an exemplary job of learning new theories and strategies to advance her knowledge and apply it directly and immediately to her students. Lastly, Kelley has a breadth of knowledge that includes knowing when additional support could benefit a kid.
